"Give
Burns The Boot"® Drive
The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation's largest source of revenue is its annual "Give Burns The Boot"® drive. Since the campaign's inception in the summer of 1990, the Foundation has generated more than $3.5 million in support of its year-round mission. The first campaign was conducted in 1990; it involved 23 fire departments primarily in the metro Atlanta area and raised $76,021. Ten years later, the campaign had grown to encompass 94 fire departments statewide and generated $533,142. The Foundation expects to raise even more funds in the 2000 "Give Burns The Boot"® campaign, involving more than 100 fire departments from all parts of the State. Most departments held their drive in late June; however, several are conducting their campaigns in October. The Foundation can thank Atlanta firefighter Ronnie Davis for suggesting that we do a "boot drive" back in 1990; Ronnie helped get the campaign off to a strong start by serving as chairman of the campaign for the first several years. In conjunction with the 1993 "Give Burns The Boot"® campaign, the Foundation introduced its GBTB Investment Credit Program as a means to say "thank you" to fire departments for participating in the campaign as well as to help provide fire safety/burn prevention programs to those communities which had been so supportive of our efforts. Through the GBTB Investment Credit Program, the Foundation sets aside 10 percent of the total funds collected by a department for that department's fire safety/burn prevention efforts (e.g., if a department raises $10,000 for the Foundation, the Foundation invests $1,000 of that amount in support of that department's fire safety/burn prevention programs). The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization according to the IRS code of 1986 and any financial gift to the Foundation is tax-deductible. Major sources of revenue for the Foundation are its annual "Give Burns the Boot"® special event and its year-round aluminum can recycling program called "Project REACH." The "Give Burns the Boot"® drive involves more than 100 fire departments throughout the State who band together during the three-day period, usually in mid-June, to raise funds for the Foundation.
