Clayton County Emergency Management

 

Clayton County Emergency Management is an agency of Clayton County government which coordinates the efforts of the County in preparing for and responding to major emergencies and disasters.

C. Crandle Bray Police HQ/Emergency Operations CenterIn times past, this agency was called Civil Defense because of it’s emphasis on preparedness for nuclear attack. The current name, Emergency Management, reflects a shift in priorities toward Homeland Security which emphasizes preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation for all types of hazards to include terrorism.

Emergency Management has a professional staff of County employees who receive specialized training. Like other public safety officials, Clayton County Emergency Managements staff members serve the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They are also supported, as needed, by dozens of dedicated volunteers in specialized roles.

The Emergency Operations Center is located in the C. Crandle Bray Police Headquarters/E-911 Emergency Operations Center at the corner of N. McDonough Street and Georgia Highway 138 in Jonesboro.

Emergency Operations CenterThe new state of the art Emergency Operations Center serves as the "nerve center" during emergency operations. Working space is provided for all disaster response Emergency Support Functions (ESFs) and representatives of Clayton County and it’s municipalities. Key disaster response officials convene in this specially-designed facility to make the strategic decisions necessary to protect the public during emergencies.
