Divisions
The services provided by the Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services include: Fire Suppression, Rescue of endangered citizens, Hazardous Material Response, Emergency Medical Services, Building Inspections, Fire Cause Investigation, Plan Reviews and Public Fire Prevention. As the Director of Emergency Management, Chief Cohilas also provides disaster preparedness, response and mitigation for all of Clayton County. These services are provided through fourteen stations, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with six divisions. Each division works closely with the men and women of the Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services to protect and serve the citizens of Clayton County. Office of the Fire Chief The Fire Chief, Alex S. Cohilas is responsible for the overall administration of the Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services. The Chief directs the activities of the Department through two Assistant Chief’s and Four Deputy Chiefs overseeing Emergency Services, Logistics/EMA Planning, Emergency Operations, Fire Prevention, and Support Services respectively. In addition to working with the Clayton County Board of Commissioners to provide organizational and fiscal direction for the Fire Department, The Chief also works closely with other department heads; local, state, and federal agencies to accomplish the mission of the Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services. Emergency Services Emergency Services is responsible for all operational services provided by the department. This consists of over 370 fire suppression, medical, and rescue specialists divided into three shifts and responding on over 26,000 calls annually. Chief Hood is responsible for the direct supervision of the Operations, Planning and Fire Prevention Divisions of the fire department.
Logistics/Emergency Management This office provides oversight and acts as a liaison between the Department and multiple State and Federal Agencies. The office is responsible for all Medical Licensing and Compliance issues regarding Personnel and Medical Response Units. As directed by the Fire Chief, Chief Maloy provides departmental representation to the EMS Council and both the Georgia and Federal Emergency Management Agencies. Chief Maloy oversees the procurement, maintenance of facilities, and distribution of materials as developed by the Support Services division.
Emergency Operations The mission of the Operations Division is to provide emergency services to every citizen and guest in Clayton County. The Deputy Chief of Operations supervises six (6) Battalion Chiefs assigned across three (3) shifts leading over 300 uniformed personnel as they carry out this mission. The Operations Division completes in excess of 44,000 responses to requests for emergency service. These incidents include structure fires, automobile accidents, medical emergencies, and special operations responses. The Deputy Chief of Operations also directs the Special Operations Division which includes the Technical Rescue Team, Hazardous Materials Response Team, and Tactical / SWAT Medic Team. Support Services The Support Services Division includes a Deputy Chief, Captain, Supply Officer and a Supply Specialist. Responsibilities include new and existing equipment and apparatus, building construction and maintenance, station supplies, and day to day supervision of the budget as it relates to these areas.
Planning The Planning and Training Division consists of a Deputy Chief, two Captains, six instructors and an administrative support position. The Division is responsible for all recruit training and continuing education for all personnel on a twenty-four hour basis. Additional responsibilities include ISO compliance, research and development, and reviewing all new applicants for compliance with the department’s minimum hiring standards. Fire Prevention The Fire Prevention Division consists of a Captain and seven prevention specialists working as inspectors, fire cause investigators, code enforcement officers, plan reviewers and public fire education instructors. Chief Jackson also supervises the Technical Services Division which is responsible for multi-media presentations and communications with local and national media outlets. The division is open during normal business hours and provides investigators and inspectors on a twenty-four hour basis.
